The Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum is a unique monument enshrined in the UNESCO World Heritage list. To ensure its conservation, the Hypogeum’s microclimate is strictly regulated and only a maximum of 80 visitors are allowed inside each day. Tours comprising of ten persons each commence on the hour from 9.00 till 16.00 (last tour). The Hypogeum is open from Monday to Sunday.*
The Guided tour includes an audiovisual introduction followed by a guided tour of the site.
The Video Experience includes a 20-minute audiovisual about the site. It does not include access to the site.
Tickets are available in a number of denominations:
Adults - 18 to 59 years of age - Eur 35.00
Children - 6 to 11 years of age - Eur 15.00
Youth (inc aged 12-17) - Eur 20.00
Seniors - 60 years and over - Eur 20.00
Card Holders - ISIC , EURO<26 , ICOM, UoM - Eur 20.00
Tickets purchased are not refundable or exchangeable.
Tours of the Hypogeum have to start exactly at the specified time. Therefore, it is imperative that all visitors arrive on site at least 15 minutes prior the commencement of their tour. Failure to arrive 15 minutes early might result in an entry refusal. In any case, refunds are not applicable.
Please note that:
Due to health and safety reasons, children under the age of 6yrs cannot be admitted to the Hypogeum. Children from 6 – 15 years must be accompanied by an adult.
Since the Hypogeum is an enclosed space, those susceptible to claustrophobia might experience some mild discomfort.
Visitors are encouraged to stay hydrated before their visit.
Due to high humidity levels within the site, some areas are very slippery. Visitors are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes. To ensure their safety, visitors with high heels and flip flops will not be admitted.
The Visitor Centre at the Hypogeum, which includes a display area and an audiovisual presentation, is wheelchair accessible. However, the archaeological site itself is NOT accessible to wheelchairs due to its configuration. All visitors must have both their hands free, to be able to use the audioguides provided while being able to hold on to the handrail.
It is not permissible to conduct photography and filming inside the Hypogeum.
Audio guides are available in Maltese, English, French, Italian, German, Spanish & Japanese. Visitors who are not able to use the audioguide provided may request a written version (available in English) of the tour by sending an email to info@heritagemalta.org, at least one week before their visit.

How to get there
By Public Transport from Valletta: Routes 81 & 82. When in Paola follow the signs from the bus stop 'Ipogew' towards the Hypogeum. The Hypogeum is found approximately 5 minutes walk away from the Paola Parish Church.
By self-drive car: Drive towards Paola / Tarxien and follow the signs. Street parking is available within available parking bays.
* Hypogeum is not open on the 24th, 25th & 31st of December, 1st of January, and on Good Friday
